The Dive Spot was founded in 1998 by Johan Boshoff. His dream was
to dive all the diving spots in Southern Africa. He already had an extensive
amount of dives in his log book, but added another 400 to these while exploring
the coastline of Southern Africa.
From his travels abroad to the Red Sea, Zanzibar, Malaysia and most
of the Indian Ocean islands, he gathered some additional experience and
knowledge. But these exotic destinations did not even compare closely to his
beloved South Africa with the vast variety of dives from sharks, caves, coral
reefs and wrecks.
The Dive Spot team are leaders in Dive Travel, Scuba Training and Technical
Diving in Southern Africa with Johan being a Trimix Instructor, Course Director, Technical Course Director as well as a certified
underwater guide. It is a dive company that is passionate about Scuba Diving
and Marine Life Education throughout the oceans of the world.
Johan developed the Marine Life Educational CD for household use.
It is a user-friendly computer programme with more than 4 000 full colour
photographs of Marine Life that will help divers and non-divers identify and
learn more about the life in and around the ocean. Included are: An easy to
use interface with basic and advanced search facilities, more than 40 dive sites
and 300 dive spots in Southern Africa, 10 Interactive dive programmes for Sport,
Advanced, Nitrox and Technical divers, 7 Interactive educational games to teach
you family, common and biological names and a help file to guide you through the
program.
Johan became the Editor of the Divestyle magazine in 2005. In addition to this,
he is also a keen underwater videographer, photographer and presented a local
television production called Borrels on Kyknet on the DSTV channel, where he
acted as the dive specialist, presenter and videographer. He was involved in
number of television productions for 50/50, a wildlife program. He also
produced a documentary with Johann Botha called ‘Beyond 50m’ that was
broadcasted in 2007 on South African television.
With technical diving being Johan’s passion, he arranged dive expeditions to the
fresh water cave Chinoy, in Zimbabwe. Oshikoto and the Guinas granite caves in
Namibia were next on the list. This expedition was to obtain footage of the
World War 2 artefacts at the bottom of the cave. These expeditions featured in
the Divestyle magazine and the footage was sold to French and German television.
Real Wear is a clothing brand was developed by Johan, specifically
aimed at real people who are also real divers, with a sense of humor. The
